Instill a culture of quality into a plethora of dubious suppliers from China

Re: Instill a culture of quality into China

Please, I'm not intending to cause insult here but I'm having a problem understanding the concept of "developing" country when the history of that country goes back 4,000 years or more.

To me, if it takes more than 4,000 years to "develop", the US hasn't even started.

If someone can give me an honest and of course politically correct answer it would really be appreciated.

Re: Instill a culture of quality into China

I dealt with Chinese suppliers for over 5 years.

A few rules I learned

1. Always, Always ensure they are accountable for the quality - they will make sure you get the quality you want. If you don't, you will get someone else's rejects

2. Clearly define what you are looking for - they are able to and willing to meet your requirements

3. Deal with reputable companies NOT FBN'ers - again quality and consistency much better.

4. If 1-3 are in place, there are very few problems and all responsibilities and accountabilities are accepted and followed through.

This sounds simple, but, I have been able to work with Chinese suppliers to the point of almost zero significant rejects (when ordering 25,000 items - you are bound to get a few rejects).

I have over 10 years experience in dealing with suppliers. From my experience, the Chinese surpass the quality of many of the North American suppliers I have dealt with. Just my :2cents:

I don't know about the "politically correct" part, but to me a developing country is one that has low BNP to the population size. As far as I know almost all these countries didn't participate in the Industrial Revolution. Several have been held back by dictatorships and others for other reasons.
Maybe it can simply be put as "countries trying to better themselves from a starting point of having next to nothing"
You'll probably get a better definition from others but that's my 2 cents worth :notme:
:topic: In my opinion "politically correct" has been taken to a stage where more thought is given on what not to say than what should be said. I'd rather have that people know my real opinion and either agree or disagree, rather than I hedge around. Hell, most politicians do it all the time - hedge around I mean

I hear the voice of experience talking here, so it's worth being read again :applause:
Making bad and cheap quality is a personal decision, not a national one.

If it hadn't been for the immigration of skilled and willing workers to the USA (mostly Europeans) then the USA would probably still be a developing country. I'm going to be very politically incorrect now - the native American indian didn't even have a wheel! Neither did they have transportation until the Spanish "visited" with horses.

Randy, if by writing what you think is insulting to anyone then almost anything will insult them  This assumes of course that you don't write just to be insulting  which I don't believe you're doing for a second.

Re: Instill a culture of quality into China

I’m writing this with a smile (friendly not gloating) as it definitely has everything to do with this thread :notme:

My wife and I (both keen gardeners) have been waiting for the Fall (Autumn) sales to start as we need a long branch scissors (cutters) to get to those high-up branches. To make a long story short we bought one that can go up to 3.5 m (11½ feet). It’s a Danish quality product with a well-renowned name so we didn’t hesitate, as the price was right

While unpacking (that damn blister wrap) I noticed the fine print that said “Made for” and then the product brand name. At the end of a very long paragraph I finally came to what I was looking for “Made in Taiwan”

I assembled it and we went into the garden so we both could try it out. It cut through branches like a knife through butter. Do I need to continue or have I made my point? It wasn’t cheap, but I’m betting it would have cost us a lot more if actually made in a “developed” country

Thats the precise reason why the big names get attracted to developing country like China and India - the profit margins can be maximised ;)

Re: Instill a culture of quality into China

Friends,

The Great Wall of China is an excellent example of Chinese quality that lasts.

Stijloor.
Not that I disagree, but looking at this in a broader pespective (than "just" China :notme:), I can't remember if I've ever heard of quality coming from Egypt in the last few centuries and they do have the pyramids ;)

If there are any Egyptians in the Cove, now's the chance to blow your horn :bigwave:
