Like I said it's more an inquisitive thought than an outright objection. Since these are new instruments, how much sensitive they are to get influenced by whatever small vibration that engraving causes.
I don't think engraving will create an issue so long as it's done with a reasonable amount of care. Your calibration process will verify the accuracy and precision of the gages. If you're not sure, you can test a few sample devices--calibrate, engrave and calibrate again.
