I found out about the C-TPAT program in a meeting this morning. Our Plant Manager plans to fold the requirements into our ISO 9001 program. I wondered if anyone else in the Cove has worked with this yet, and if incorporation into ISO is being done in other companies.

Info on C-TPAT is available at: Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT)

We have been contacted a few times about it but we are doing nothing here. So far we have had no repercussions but I imagine it is only a matter of time before it is added into the requirements. I found it to be way too expensive for a company like ours based on the risk. After all, I doubt that a terrorist could even find Wellington.

I'm definitely in the discovery phase of this program, but I believe the intent is to utilize suppliers who are willing to follow your security procedures when importing products to you, as well as you following security procedures when exporting. Compliance audits are involved, of course.

I believe it's supposed to reduce your time through customs also. I can't find anything that really outlines the requirements on the government site, though.

Hi, we did C-TPAT. As I recall, the "Supply Chain Security Profile Questionnaire" was fairly straightforward. We developed a security procedure and incorporated it into our ISO 9001 documentation. Also we developed a carrier security questionnaire and included it as part of our supplier assessment procedure. It wasn't too bad for us, but may be more involved for an importer - particularly if you haven't been inspecting/repackaging product.

Kerry, is your supplier questionnaire something you might be able to share?
Thanks,
Rosie

Carrier Questionnaire

Sure - this is just the carrier survey attached. We also included reference to our assessment of suppliers (as required by ISO 9001:2000) as part of our C-TPAT application. Good Luck.
