I also find that the poorer the questions, the more that are asked.

A flurry of "do you do this" and "do you do that" type of questioning not only comes across as an interrogration to the auditee, but can easily be replaced by "So, would you mind showing me how you do [insert process/activity here]." Additional follow up questions usually come out of the response to the first open-ended question.
