Internal Audit using Plan, Do, Check, Act - Way to go?

#1
Hi all
Happy new year to all!
I recently attended a free BSI seminar and they hinted that the attached could be used as an Audit schedule for the new version of the ISO9001 standard. Is it simply a case of using the boxes (which are not numbered) and linking them to the releavnt procedures within our system r is it more complicated than that?
I have been pondering this one for a while and got to the point where i cant see the wood for the tress and need some help?
Thanks
Mark

Mark - I'm glad it was a hint, because it's nonsense (I suspect it's a particular instructor's "good idea" more than anything).

The actual requirement for an internal audit program isn't (planned) to change very much so why would it be necessary to do anything different? I can see why you'd be confused. Have you seen my article on audit planning? It's still relevant...

Hello Mark. Rather than try to adapt someone else's diagram of a QMS structure, you would be better off creating your own schedule on a ready made calendar. It will save you a lot of time trying to see the trees. :bigwave:

I think the way BSI have hinted you go about this lacks clarity.

It's not an audit schedule or audit plan. It's some "hints" at what to look at with respect to ISO 9001:2015. If you are going to do that, you're better off to use a spreadsheet, but essentially if you are making up an audit plan to audit against the standard, the BSI flow chart (if you will) offers some "hints". Yes, you could have each box point to internal procedures/processes as an easy way to show compliance to the standard, but Andy is essentially right in that it is simplistic. I won't go so far as calling it nonsense.

Your discussion thread title has "...Plan, Do, Check, Act..." - I'm not sure how that fits in here.

Hi all,
Thanks for the very quick replies, I normally use the old belt and braces audit by clause and include any other areas that I feel need auditing on my plan. Although the BSI guy hinted about the use of this you have confirmed my thoughts as to how this would become a plan as I couldnt get my head round it.
I haven't seent the internal audit schedule post mentioned, a link as suggested by the other would be helpful, if you could repost I will read that post before doing the same thing again as stated above.
Many thanks
Regards
Mark

It could be because the author has i) read the sections of the standard, ii) noticed that PDCA is mentioned in the document, and iii) has decided to draw a picture which mentions both.

It is as far away from the idea of auditing processes as you could wish to see...

Just as well that the seminar in question was free!

Yeah - I was watching an ISO guy in a link Sidney put up in another thread here. He was all pumped up about the "process approach", PDCA and risk management - As if they were new concepts.

The free BSI seminar? Thousands of companies are already giving both free and "pay for" webinars, public and private "presentations" about the "new" ISO 9001. Thousands of articles have been written and are being written. There are ISO 9001:2015 groups on Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+. Everything old is "new and exciting" again, as if it never were. I'm sure you're right.
