Internal Auditor Training Courses in Australia - Recommendations

Hey Jan! Our Poster would probably be amazed if he found out how many trainers working for CB's didn't pump out the "party line" when doing IA training, but instead focus on telling the cash paying client that they have to get out of the "nobody really cares garbage" and get into the weeds and roots of their individual systems.

I did not say their system auditor training was ineffective. I gave several other solid reasons for seeking training from a specialist in internal auditing.

Define your expectations and then talk to them individually to assess the ideal one for you !

To which I'd just add - aim to get some feedback from previous customers if possible.

I would avoid training from the certification bodies so they can stay focused on certifying systems instead of undermining the value of their independent certificates by also enabling conformity of some of the same systems they certify.

I disagree with this strongly.

Among other points, we (Australia) are not very large in population, and that is strung out across very large distances. Having 'specialist providers in internal audit' in every state in the country, let alone large regional cities is just not economic.

Most (not all, but most) of the providers of audit training are certifiers.

Like any other service providers, there are very good ones and some fairly average. But giving advice against the use of CBs as audit training providers, and especially in this country, is very flawed advice.

Yes, agree. All the good ones I know of, or that my client personnel tell me about (after the course), do this. To think there's some kind of 'party line' pumped out by a CB is just plain ignorant, let alone wrong.

John, I note that your company website lists internal audit training etc as one of the services you provide. Perhaps it would be helpful if you'd declare or even acknowledge the possibility of bias / conflict of interest in such a case.

Not sure if you are referring to my post but there are a lot of difference in the meaning of words used. Further more, I am limiting myself to observations I made over here (including materials I had seen and have in hand).



Yes, that's certainly a better approach.

Quite agree Harry, I was trying to be subtle, implying that it is important to look at various options. There definitely are providers who use a 'cut down' version of the LA course in order to deliver IA training and it probably isn't the best training to go for.
