Internal Auditor Training Presentation - ISO/TS 16949 - Seeking Information

I need a presentation to train internal auditors .
I wanted to provide them an overview of each Clause of ISO/TS 16949.

I have a train the trainer class scheduled for next month but need to train auditors now.

Per my Manager :whip:

Any help would be appreciated.

Why hold a "class" We have a handout on auditing we distribute to internal auditors. It takes about 45 min. to 1 hour to read. After reading the candidates sign off that they have read and understand it. Then for their first few audits I help them along before allowing them to go solo.

Training internal auditors is like a good wine it takes time. Most of the auditors I have trained did not come from the organizations QA Department and did not even know what a quality standard was.

Best you can hope fore if you do not have training materials would be to walk through the standard clause by clause explaining the terminology used and give lots of examples etc.

Training internal auditors for ISO TS 16949

IMO training internal auditors for ISO TS goes a bit further than that.

Besides knowing what the ISO TS clauses mean they also should know about all applicable customer specific requirements, applicable techniques like APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control plans, MSA, process approach, etc...
This for the theoretical side of it.
Then the practical side can start........

Well,
If your looking for cookie cutter auditors, give them a hand out to read and sign off. Jeff Frost's reply is good advice.
Over viewing is good for starters however, you would be rather misguided to believe you'll get instant auditors from mere training. I wish you well.

There is a pretty good one available at the ISO 9000 Store on internet. I used it. It went over very nicely. :)

"Training Internal Auditors" Good Luck! and be carefull, there are some customer specific requirments that sometimes slip through if you supply at the tier 1 level for GM or Ford. Ford C/S (4.39.1) States auditors will be trained AND EVALUATED (This Means Some Type of Exam, Test or Other Evaluation) in the following: ISO/TS 16949, Related "Core Tools", Applicable Customer Specifics and the Automotive Process Approach to Auditing.
And as part of the training, participate in practice sessions equivalent to one day in: Case Study, Role-Play etc. Ford also specifies who may conduct this training. Where GM is your tier one customer they state that your internal auditor will as a minimun meet the requirements if ISO-19011. Without this training it will be hard to satisfy without evidence. You may be thinking "No big deal" however the process approach to auditing will face a challange with the integrity of Management Reviews where the input from internal auditing comes into question because the auditors may not have met all the customer specific requirements. If the audit is then suspect, this creates a chain reaction or domino effect because the the out-put from Management Review (Corrective & Preventive Actions) now come into question and so on and so on.

Also, Ford has requirements on the instructors as well. I know of at least on STA that would not allow us to train our instructors ouselves. It might be better if you were to look at the Ford requirements on using experience instead of trying to train them yourselves.

The Ford requirements on the IOAB website say that (Sec.4.39.3) states the trainers must sucessfully meet all requirements in4.39.1 which are
Be trained and evaluated in the following areas. TS 16949
Related core tools (APQP, MSA, SPC, PPAP)
Applicable customer requirements and teh process approach to auditing.

Training shall consist of one day in case study audits, audit role play or on site audits.

Core tools can be taught by company recognized experts.

I would challenge your STA if he says you can't do it.
