As I mentioned, I learned it over 50 years ago in high school football where our school was small, thus a limited roster to choose from, and where we experienced situations such as arriving at a game site that the local fire department had hosed down (this was in Hazard, KY - an 'away' game) the field because (as was admitted at the time after our team protested) the opposing tam believed our team performed poorly on muddy fields. We had to "Improvise, Adapt, Overcome" which we did and won the game and the state championship that year (and quite a few subsequent years).
The terms "Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome" have been used for years just as People Helping People has.
