I mean I have tried different packages form all over the world. I see packages trying to teach me to do FMEA's. I know FMEA's .... I want to document the darn things!!!! Don't people do FMEA's anymore?

Help  ready to:truce:

Of course we "still" do FMEA's, it that they have become one of those regular routine activities that we do get worked up about any more.

I've tried all sorts of off the shelf software most of which has been very unsuitable to our needs. Use Excel and keep it simple I say.

Thats my two pence worth.

We are using Excel, and that is why we are looking for a software program. We have been burned before and want to ensure we tie up loose ends. Things like formatting reports, creating templates, and entering repititive information make me feel less like an engineer and more like a secretary. Surely someone can help

You might want to do a FMEA on your marketing. I don't know too many people who would buy software that has errors (Sp?) in its presentation.

ha ha ha !

You should check your spelling. But hey, thanks for the post. Are you writing in an access database ?

Item - Marketing

Failure mode - Spelling Error

Failure Effect - Loss of Customer, Customer Skepticism

Cause - Lack of review

Recommendation - Installation of a data check, or spell check within FMEA software program.

Thanx for that FMEA on mktg. I'll take appropriate action.

I have a standalone version that uses MS Access, and also a network version on MS SQL Server.

Re: Iq Fmea

I use IQ- Software too.
The point is that this software leads you - more or less- through the FMEA.
1.When you start the FMEA in the structure editor you can create the different system elements (right click: new...)
2. split the screen, on the right side you can define function / failures / charecteristics (right click: new...)
3. open failure net
connect the failures , results, causes, if you like you can assess the results in this editor
4. open the form-sheet
there you can define actions, assess them, ....

If you are familiar with the software, it´s easy to use.
We use it direct in the FMEA- Meetings and we don´t have to work on it afterwords (complete documentation including control-plan, timetable, statistics, etc.).

Just a word of hopefull advice, design your own FMEA program whether it be Excel or Access. You will find that these programs are very interrangable and compatible with others.

Give me a yell if you want any help!!!!!!!!!!!

IQ= Pink Slip

My first impression was that this package seems to be on a very professional level e.g. it can switch between layouts acc. QS or VDA standards. The program offers a lot of functions for viewing, analysing, editing etc. After seeing all the buttons and menus I was wondering where to start. This took several hours.
After this I was getting irritated because of not making progress. This took the rest of the day. Now I realize that I will not be able to do any further benchmarking before doing an ex(t)(p)ensive course or training to understand this package.

I have started to look elsewhere. I don't know how buddy two posts back keeps his job if he relies on IQ FMEA

Re: IQ= Pink Slip

Hello Steve,
I keep my job because I work with FMEA and with this software.
You are right it´s not easy to use (compared with Word & Excel). It´s more a CAQ- Software.
If you need help, send me an e-mail, and I will send you my short Powerpoint - presentation for training which explain FMEA and how to use the software.
Also the presentation is in German, it could help you to find a start.
