Re: Is ISO9001 Certification in 30 days realistic?
Woah! So are you all saying its not a good idea then.

.
Just to appease everyone I wouldn't have considered it either. But one of my directors received the fabled advertisement through his fax and stuck it on my desk.
I have been working on developing my own QM manual and proceduers for over 2 months now and don't think I'm too far away now from presenting as a first draft at a management review. Then all going well get the system and paperwork implemented into the comapny and let it run for atleast a couple of months while being monitored.
Good to read!
I'd like to put things in perspective.
I've seen a lot of organizations over the past 40 years which COULD pass a third party registration audit from a valid registrar at an instant's notice. They had existing great quality management systems without ever having heard of ISO 9xxx - my experience predates ISO QMS Standards.
The major problem has been alluded to - actually scheduling a third party registrar's auditors to perform the audit.
Thus said, I've also seen lots of organizations with great de facto quality systems, BUT they usually lack one or two items from passing a 3rd party audit on the first go-round. First and primary lack is usually lack of written documentation of
- we plan to do this
- we actually do this
- this is the record of what we do demonstrating we meet our written plan.
Some ISO QMS Standards require "continual improvement" (ISO 13485 being the notable exception.) Most organizations not currently registered do not have a defined process for continual improvement.
For those organizations which are a lot more disorganized than the types I've identified above, the process usually takes about six months to get the ducks in a row for a third party audit to pass the first time through.
