Is it just my customers or is every REACH or RoHS request you get "URGENT"?

I never get a message like "hey - we need REACH information on parts A,B,C,D... Can you get back to me in a week or so?"

no, it's always "URGENT!!!".

How about for you?

Same here, although with IMDS. I assume they operate similarly. Admittedly, I don't know what our agreement is with our customer as to when it should be created/submitted. Upon order receipt? Prior to PPAP? Prior to shipment? Seems like on some parts it's asked for and on others not at all. When it's asked for though, it's always NOW.

We all have planned ahead, right? and made it a PPAP (or other product approval method) requirement to have a completed MDS or substance declaration, right?

AIAG and other organization have written about REACH since 2006.

There is help, if you need it.

We make very basic parts - springs & stampings. We do no assembly work such as printed cirduit boards. Everything is made to the customer's specification on both materials and finishes. I supply certs on both. I don't understand how they can't know if the part is RoHS compliant. They are the ones who wrote up the specifications. I too notice that it is always urgent even if we delivered the parts 6 months ago.

It is best to plan ahead and have it ready when needed.

Restricted material certification is on the PSW from the 4th Edition PPAP manual.

Sure, they specified the materials on the drawing, but you as supplier have to supply the information showing that what you purchased to make the part is compliant.

Your parts appear basic. There are plenty of other parts with major complexity and substances that are restricted, prohibited or an SVHC.

Yeah - for a new product or customer is one thing but these are parts the customer has been buying since 2002.
This is typical of my work these days - retroactive research for long time parts on RoHS, REACH, DFARS and doing FMEA's and Control Plans for parts that have been in use to years.

And of course it doesn't matter that every component of every part we make is RoHS compliant. A blanket statment won't do it for many - they want a part by part listing on their own form.

REACH I'm still working on... it just started touching us.
