We have a fairly new QMS in place that is ISO certified but we have tried to go lean and make it such that the system is at work every day. We casually talk about ISO rarely when interacting but it's our system that we drive home.

I gave training on ISO to our staff management team about an hour. General intro., benefits, roadblocks. The most important is the training on your Quality Manage System and everyone went thru it. The amount depended on what their responsibilities involved. With your recent post, your management system should be a work and a part of your culture. A established QMS is a stepping stone to lean.

I think the most important thing is to ensure your daily processes are in line with QMS for example if you handling customer complaint ensure that complaint is investigated root cause established and corrective action is done as part of the process. If you manage to address QMS in processes staff knowledge will be imparted in a practical approach.

The extent of our factory-wide ISO training is audit preparation. Due to many blank/lost stares during audits, Top Management requests that I do a training session prior to our CB audits to refresh, not limited to:
- the policy, objectives, where to locate results,
- basic 'what to expect during the audit and from an auditor' (taking notes, awkward silence, etc.),
- things to think about when asked "how does your job affect the objectives?",
- reminder to ensure posted material is up-to-date,
- reminder of new/updated initiatives that can fit within the realms of QMS/EMS,

Has this helped our people answer questions, maybe. They at least seem to be a little more at ease during the interviews and have some intelligent answers.
