Is That Plating Wave Washer will reduce its stiffness?

Dear Elsmar Members,

I currently have issue with my product that is customer complaint have noise when pressing pedal clutch and its cause by our defect part. I suspect its come from sub-supplier child part that is wave washer. The origin condition of wave washer is black that is condition after heat treatment. So I wanna ask? I that any article or evidence to prove that plating that wave washer will reduce stiffness?

Hello mshah, and welcome to the Cove.

I understand that you suspect that the wave washer is causing the noise. You say that it is usually black after heat treatment. Has the colour changed for the affected batch? I doubt that lack of plating reduces stiffness to any great degree, but it could affect the surface friction of the washer significantly, and maybe cause a noise that way. Is the function of your product affected in any other way?

Any other ideas, Covers?
