Is there a place where I can purchase ISO 9001:2000 posters? I would like to hang some up (Calibration, document control etc.) to keep ISO in the minds of everyone to go along with my training.

Any suggestions? :thanx:

I'm a heretic on this - I follow the Deming precept of his point #10
10. Eliminate slogans, exhortations, and targets for the work force asking for zero defects and new levels of productivity. Such exhortations only create adversarial relationships, as the bulk of the causes of low quality and low productivity belong to the system and thus lie beyond the power of the work force.
and interpret this to also include posters and exhortations on Standards and other things.

the point is
Everyone in the organization should be pulling toward executing the organization's own Quality and Business Management Systems. If your organization is abdicating its role as the creator of the Quality policy, plan, and system, and simply chasing the ISO Certificate of Registration, nobody from customer, to employee, to investor is getting a benefit.

Wes,
Thanks for the reminder how easy we forget.

I'm with Wes, of course.

But if you are not seeking to exhort, but to reinforce the principles and methods you teach in classes, why don't you try some visuals posted at stations?

People doing SPC could use a mini flip chart with laminated sheets showing steps, calculations, examples of data entering charts etc.

Proper packaging techniques, safe use and disposal of specific chemicals, a reminder of where expiration dates are located on pastes, and other topics could be pointed out for reference's sake.

Flow charts could show appropriate work procedures or other specs to be used at the point of assembly, or other critical quality process points.

My point here is reinforcement. We offer training, but people absorb the information at different rates and with varying methods. Some people need reminders that we are serious about expecting things to be done as we trained them to do.

One must use caution with the information, so these things don't become controlled or proprietary documents that add risk through their promulgation.

Does anyone here object to this method? I always care to learn when my ideals go astray.

This is what I was going for, i.e. A chart to remind people about cal-dates and what the stickers mean, Document control what the do and don'ts are.
I think I will go with visual aides a poster showing the different types of lables we use etc.

:thanks:

Yep. Please leave ANY mention of ISO 9001:2000 off the charts. I can't tell you how discouraging it is to go into a workplace and see these Big banners trumpeting "ISO Certified" costing hundreds of dollars each stretched from rafters throughout the place, but the company vending machines charge employees $1.00 for a 7 ounce cup of mediocre coffee.

Much better in my mind to lose the banners and subsidize the coffee. The employees might appreciate the coffee, but I know they ignore the banners.

I'm still not sure why anyone wants to keep "ISO" in front of employees, rather than the task at hand. Do we make and sell ISO? Is the ISO label more important than the quality inside? Apparently it is to some companies or it wouldn't be displayed ABOVE the company's own logo.

:caution: I'm not really sorry for the rant - being a slave to ISO 9001:2000 and 3rd party auditors rather than to customers and employees is a particular hot button of mine.

Total agreement

The mini-flip charts are a good idea. I worked in a place that did them to help with training and dealing with customers. The company was not ISO certified. They just liked the idea of everyone on the same page. Unfortunately, we made our own with Harvard Graphics 3.0 (Like I said it was a long time ago). I have found theat boiler plates of anything does not work for each company (Plus, they usally have ISO written all over them).
For my current company, what I did for similar projects was to talk with a local Vo-Tech High School and used the students. Tailored to your needs, done with current technology, and helps the kids. A letter of reference if you like some student's work, doe not hurt.
