Re: Is there an overall standard for calibration of items used in TS 16949 Certified
I am really new to gage calibration. Is there a standard time length that is used when calibrating items such as CMM's, plug gages, width gages and other items we use?
There is not a single standard time length. It depends on how you use the gages, how frequently or roughly they get used, and how demanding your needs and tolerances are. However, there are some good starting points.
If you are with a TS-16949 certified company, then the AIAG "Blue Book" titled MSA - Measurement Systems Analysis is a good place to start. Also, ASTM specs, the owners manual that comes with the gage. Also, guidance is available from your external calibration house, though be aware, sometimes they lean toward the side of doing it too frequently.
Understanding the concept of why you verify calibration is very important. If you understand the the principles, then you can determine, based on history and acceptable risks, what intervals are suitable for your needs, and go from there.

Good luck...
