Is there any value in monthly quality reporting?

My previous experience with Quality reporting is that we reported our audit results weekly, with a 13-week rolling yield included. My current company is looking to do this MONTHLY. I don't see any value in checking our results 12 times per year.

What are your experiences with recurring reporting? What's a 'typical' cadence for quality audit results?

Depends: What are you "auditing"? You mention "quality audits", then you say "yield". Are your audits of the QMS (ISO, AS, IATF, other)? Or are these audits something else? "Typical" is dependent.

I have "results" reviewed shiftly or multiple times a day, daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly - it depends on which "results".

Regardless - you should use data to make your case. You don't offer any reason why Monthly has no value versus Quarterly?

I mean daily inspections (we use the term 'audit' for our sample). We're driving these results back to SQDC boards within the plant, and I personally don't see the value of only checking in once per month.

Got it. Daily inspection results are currently being reported weekly and there is an ask to move to monthly.

So it is not a question of "value" - it is the opposite - you feel the results should be reported weekly??? I hope that is correct based on your last post?

Why do you believe that monthly is not good enough? Does the data change that much? Do you need to react quickly? Do the weekly results drive something beneficial that you lose moving to monthly?

SQDC boards are primarily an engagement tool for the operators on the floor. In order for them to feel engaged with the quality results, I feel like they need to see them more often. This is drifting into organizational culture territory and not pure quality, but I was hoping some folks here had experience in both directions.

By 'quick reactions' it does help us identify specific lines that are struggling from staffing challenges, supply chain issues, etc.

I guess a lot of the value comes from who's looking at it when. The SQDC boards I've seen were reviewed daily by the people extremely close to the process, weekly by people further from the process, and monthly by people even further from the process.

I think there's value in some parts of an organization looking over data immediately to catch problems early and value in some parts of an organization looking at it long term to not miss the forest for the trees.

This is good. As you approach the topic with whoever (I am assuming this is management) is asking for the move to monthly, you can:
  1. inform them that the primary purpose of these particular "results" is to provide the operators on the floor with regular and sustained engagement in the quality metrics of the operations
  2. inform them that the "results" also provide a rapid response to staffing challenges, supply chain issues, etc. that would be lost if moved to monthly
  3. inform them that you can create a monthly report for them to meet a frequency that is more suited to the management within the organization.

This is a perfectly acceptable practice and precisely what we do at our org.

We look at any unusually negative results daily or upon notice, and they are summarized monthly.
