is it required to make the clibration out side or we can do it internal ?

is this work instruction is enougth ? or it must show more details and be refrenced from the manfacturing

SUBJECT :
CALIBRATION PROCDURE FOR ALL MONITORING AND
MEASURING DEVICE

Objective
:
To confirm calibration of the monitoring and measuring devices
Scope : All measuring devices affecting product/process quality
Details
:
1.
Clean the instrument, which require calibration.
2. Ensure slip gauge block box having all slip gauges required
for calibration.
3 Set the instrument at zero setting
4 Ensure Zero error and reading zero on vernier or
digital readout
5 Measure 1.00 mm slip gauge with the instrument.
Record the difference in reading if any
6 Select the range of measurement required for given job
7 Select minimum 5 slip gauge in the given range
8 Repeat the step no. 5 with selected slip gauges for
example for the range of 1.00 to 10.00 mm as 3,5,8,10 mm.
9 Record the difference take average of the all five reading
10 Now use this average as reading difference for all your
measurement in the selected range
11 For all your measurement requirement follow this
Procedure

Re: is this enought work instruction for calibration

Can you show enough training of the folks doing the calibration to prove they know what they are doing? And, are they truly trained well enough to understand what they are doing without comprehensive work instructions? An auditor is probably going to want to know how the calibrator knows the acceptable tolerance, what should be done if the equipment is out of calibration and what information needs to be recorded, such as "as found" and "as left" dimensions. These are a few thoughts, there are others here who are more current in calibration than I.

What type(s) of measuring equipment is this procedure for?

Just a couple of technical things to go along with SteelMaiden's training points...

If these are calipers/micrometers, there is a certain amount of pressure/ # of clicks that one should apply when seating the block.

Will they need to wring blocks together for the measurement?

I don't see any tolerance assessment. How are they to know if it is in or out? What should they do?

Do you have another set of gauge blocks to use while your first set is out for calibration? Are your gauges of suitable accuracy for your tolerance?

A few things I noticed.:D

This Work instruction is inadequate. You cannot use this work instruction as a common instruction for all Measuring and Test Equipment(MTE).
Slip gauges are required only for some specific MTE.Variety of MTE IN industry are too innumerable and differ in design and application.
Ideally you have to write several work instructions to cover all your measuring equipment and one common master list of MTE with permissible error suitable to your product tolerances.

I donot have soft copies of Calibration work instructions.
If you want me to post Calibration procedure I can post it.
Calibration work instructions should be in line with ISO 17025 or applicable ASTM or other applicable testing standards .But allowable tolerances can decided by the organization based on its product tolerances. It is not practicable to specify tolerances from the testing standards as the standards specify tolerances applicable to brand new equipment.

We do appreciate the help. What Stijloor is asking is if you would be willing to post an adequate example of a procedure for slip gauges. If not, no big deal.

As to your point about tolerances, I agree, and appreciate hearing about others being more flexible in what tolerances they establish for their equipment.

tech4arab, I do think you should consider V.J. Brahmaiah's suggestion to see if there is an ASTM procedure for doing this work. An accepted (validated) standard is always better than trying to get one from scratch.
