Re: Is this one of the worst policy statements you have seen???

I'm suprised someone would pay money for that.

Precisely. People would pay for this because as I've said many times, "common sense is something that is not evenly distributed".

This isn't as bad as it can get. I actually saw material that had been developed by Ford for it's supplier EMS's and posted for "free use" copied, edited and sold as a "unique" EMS for a few thousand $'s.

I would paraphrase the first paragraph of your company website, under the "Welcome" portion - and make that your quality policy.

So come on! Lets see your improvements offered.
"We promise that we're gonna do what we have to, when we have to and how we have to, doing it better and better all the time by meeting goals in order to keep the customer content."

Re: Is this one of the worst policy statements you have seen???

I've seen a few worse policy statements. It does rank fairly high on the list though.

My approach to developing a policy statement is to start with the company's processes and have the process owners determine key metrics for each process. I help them to group the metrics into similar categories, and these become the quality objectives. The basics of the each of the objectives are then crafted into a relatively short policy statement that makes sense and really describes what is important to the business.

I may have posted something similar before, but attached is an example from a company I am working with now.

...this one could have really benefitted from spellcheck.
I'm sure you meant benefited... :whip:

FWIW:
In a more serious vein, one of the medical device companies I advise came up with this on its own (EDITED BY ME TO DISGUISE ITS IDENTITY):
[name]. is completely committed to producing [type] devices of the highest quality and effectiveness, which meet or exceed customer requirements. We accomplish this total commitment to quality by establishing, maintaining and executing procedures, controls and processes that insure the production of high quality products.

This quality system is defined in [name]'s Quality Manual and is structured to comply with ISO Standard 13485:2003, FDA Quality System Regulation (US 21 CFR 820) and EU Council Directive 93/42/EEC.

My advice and counsel does NOT include writing a document FOR the company, but I will spend hours helping them craft their own document in their own words so they can have a sense of accomplishment and ownership of the document. In this instance, my only suggestion was to change the last sentence in the first paragraph from passive voice to active voice.

Actually, this policy is as good as any I have ever seen. In the first place I have never seen a policy that really;

1) Added any value to any Quality System.
2) Did anything to further Quality awareness
3) Was understood or even known by all employees

Unfortunately, with the guidelines so directly set out by 9K2K and TS2, the content of almost anyone's Quality Policy is already prophesized. We all know the wording of paragraph 5.3 of ISO 9001. With our seemingly aggressive "back-turning" on documentation I am surprised any one would be concerned about a document that will probably never be read or understood anyway. Usually the only time it comes into play is during the audit.

Yes, this seems to be as good a Qualty Policy as any other. I don't see a framework for establishing and reviewing quality objectives though. You know, that is a direct requirement within 5.3

That's what happens when the standard dictates what must be in any certain document, we start reviewing them for that content.

Oh well...........

Depressing isn't it Gary.

Another thing is, I have never seen an auditor pay any attention to the policy after the initial audit, other than possibly, identification of a document control issue of some kind, if the auditor happended to nose into the policy hanging on a wall.;)
