Is training necessary to perform internal audits within our company

You may have to forgive me, as I am new to this. My question is this: My company is looking to become ISO9001:2000 certified, and I am currently working on the quality documentation. I am unsure as to whether training is necessary to perform internal audits within our company...? We plan to have regular audits done by a third party. Are all audits done by outside parties? Is it only the management review that is done by our people? ...thanks.

Your company is going for new certification. The certification body is an external one. They also do the pre-certification audit.

But prior to that within the organisation itself it is better to organise the internal audit team and audit cross departmental procedures and systems. During that course some people maynot understand certain areas and the same can be rectified. It is better to train people to perform internal audits. In the audits one has to look for objective evidence to show the non-conformance.

Many times audit people go and ask what they are doing and get convinced. This is not correct. They have to look at the procedure of the department they are auditing and see that they are happening according to what has been stated. If any step is missing it is a v violation and a non-conformance has to be raised. For doing this it requires some training. Hence training is required.
