We managed to upgrade to ISO9001:2000 in January with no significant dramas. I suspect that our relatively painless transition from ISO9002:1994 was helped by the engagement of a quietly spoken but knowledgeable consultant to help with the preliminary steps - and the fact that we routinely stress to our registration auditors that we expect them to contribute to our operational goals. We let them know up front that we want their involvement in our business to be seen as an investment not a cost. As many of the forum contributors emphasise, there is a wide choice of registration organisations and auditors out there - and we expect (and have generally found) them to be fair, friendly and approachable. I can't imagine many truly committed organisations having much difficulty with the new requirements - but I am only speaking from my limited personal experiences and work environment.

D-Day approaches

Next Weds. and Thurs. is the big day for me. We are moving from 9002. I've been here a year, and our system was so bad I started from scratch. I have put in systems at 3 plants, so I don't expect a great deal of problems, but this will be my first 2000. Sacrifice a cow (or a virgin) for me.:thedeal:

Actually, we used a part time staff of five (out of a 3600 person factory). So the resources weren't very much. The biggest problem was getting people to do and document what they were already supposed to do. The actual initial certifcation cost us about 150K spread over two years since we phased the certification of each internal factory (we have 10) about 1-2 months apart. (In hindsight, we would have done it all at once for less cost.) There was/is an additional 150K over the next four years of semi-annual external audits to maintain certification. One advantage of a government facility is that we have so many (useless) govt visits (GAO, headquaters, finanical, Inspector General, EPA, OSH, etc.), we count the visits as Internal Audits!

If it helps any, the night before ours, I sacrificed a virgin bottle of Stoli... seemed to work :D and did wonders for my nerves.... :vfunny:

Registered to ISO 9001:2000

We have just been recommended for ISO 9001:2000 Certification. Our Certification Audit was held November 25-27th. Prior to this we never have been registered to ISO 9000.

ISO 9001:2000 Certification

We Hindalco Industries Ltd. Silvassa Unit has been certified with ISO 9K2K on 15th Dec. 2001 along with ISO 14001 for EMS. We have started documentation in Feb. 2001 and identified some 35 odd processes for which Input and Output have been identified. These process includes Training, Calibration , Casting , Machining and other. During auditing we have been audited for processes and not for documents. This I feel a paradigm shift from old ISO Auditing. We have been given lot of training on this process model approach. I used to conduct almost every week a class to develope this new concept. And Finally on 15 Dec. 2001, We got both the certificates .

Successful ISO 2000 Audit

Auditor just left, no nonconformities and registration recommended. 1 year of work finally paid off. It was about what I expected, we did not dramatically change our system, but did have to document Customer Satisfaction procedures. Yea HA!!!:D
