ISO 14000 Integrated into ISO 2000? Bad Idea?

Hello,

We are an ISO 9001:2000 registered company. We are now pursuing ISO 14000 to help us develop a sound EMS.

We have received some council stating that it is not wise to integrate an EMS into our QMS. Apparantly if they are integrated it makes all aspects of our Q & E auditable and this is a bad thing?

It does not make sense to me and I am seeking advise from some one whom might know.

I appreciate any feedback on this.

Regards,
Steve

We have established an ISO 14000 compliant system integrated with our present ISO/QS QM. Just keep your first tier seperate and integrate the rest where you can. Add procedures you need, and it should get you there.

Integration makes more sense than not integrating. Do a "SEARCH" on the subject here in the Cove, you'll see what I mean.

Whoever is giving you council needs to get closer to sea level where there is more Oxygen.

I'm sure you know the right way to do it or you wouldn't be asking.

I agree with Russ & Randy: In general, I would say that it is a unwise not to integrate EMS & QMS. They have a lot in common after all, and integration is likely to minimize the total work load.

whereas if they are not integrated all aspects are not auditable??? No, I don't get it either. Would someone bring me the oxygene, please...

I find this 'advice' to separate bizarre.

Why duplicate, think of the paper and trees that would get used.

Ours are so tightly linked, the auditor actually modified his report page to state 'Management System Manual' etc and deleted the 'quality/environmental' statements in the check box!!!!

/me breathes Oxygen so I can think straight :P

Alright, I agree that combining makes more sense. Does anyone have a "Correspondance between 14001 and 2000" by chance?

I am looking right now into all the regulatory requirements for city, state, and federal.

Thanks for the input guys!!!
