ISO 14001:2015 Implementation in my company

Hi All,

I am Stu Hutton, 42 and based in the UK.
I work for a manufacturer of industrial and commercial resin and cementitious flooring products.
Starting with the company 21 years ago within the factory I have since worked my way from technician to Team Leader and then on to Production Manager. After gaining my NeBOSH I was made chair of the H&S committee and within the past month recently promoted to EHS & Compliance Manager.
My main objective, with a little apprehension due to limited experience in management systems, is to gain ISO 14001:2015 accreditation for my organisation.
I look forward to using the tools on offer within Elsmar to aid me in this process.
If anyone has any links that would be of use to help in the implementation process that would be greatly appreciated.

I am a big believer in the sharing of best practice so we can all return home to our loved ones after a days work, safe and well, and without impacting negatively on our environment.
Thanks All.
Stu

Hello Stu, welcome, I have done a 14001 audit for just one company, and it was a manufacturer of equipment for testing semiconductor wafers. They had a very professional program. Would be glad to help with anything I have gleaned from that experience. Regards, Eric

Re: New Folks - Please Take a Minute & Introduce Yourself/Say Hello! (8/2010 to TBD)

Hi Eric.

Thanks for the welcome.

Being new to Management Systems per se and having just read my way through the new standard; I am very conscious of over-complicating the implementation process and making this more complicated than is necessary, by nature I am liable to go into too much detail on a subject.

In terms of an "idiots guide", what would you consider to be the key actions from the start of the process?
My initial thinking is...
1. Determine interested parties, internal and external.
2. Determine aspects and impacts.
3. Define a legal register.
4. Determine risk and opportunities.
5. Scope.
6. Policy.
7. Launch EMS.

Thanks in advance, I appreciate any help and the time taken out to reply.

Regards,
Stu

Hi Stu,

I agree with your points, but I think the sequencing would be a bit different. Your list follows:
1. Determine interested parties, internal and external.
2. Determine aspects and impacts.
3. Define a legal register.
4. Determine risk and opportunities.
5. Scope.
6. Policy.
7. Launch EMS.
The standard reads in a weird linear way that causes the same phrases to be repeated over and over. If you deconstruct it, you will find that 4.1 and 4.2 feed in parallel both into the scope and the planning to address risks and opportunities. So I would do something like the following:
1. Internal and external issues
2. Needs and requirements of relevant interested parties
3. Scope
4. Planning for risks and opportunities
5. Policy
6. Legal register
7. Implementation
8. Training
9. Roll-out of the system
Nothing wrong with your approach; this is just an alternative.

I understand that you are talking about the ISO 14K certification through a CB .. Right ?
Is the ISO 14k certification your business need or the organization drive ... ?
Please get the 3. (Terms & Definitions read and understood well., particularly the 3.1.5

Hi Normzone,

Will do, once I familiarize myself with the standard properly and have confidence in my implementation documents I will be more than happy to share with you all.

We have our Stage 1 assessment provisionally booked for October so I best get cracking :)

Regards, Stu
