Is there anyone out there who issues out calibration certificate/report with 17025 logo TOGETHER with 9001 logo on the same (at least cover page) page?

any 'rules' from auditors on this?

I am not in that line of business and therefore could not give an answer to your question but I can give you some ideas from the perspective of a 'user'.

For simple or non critical calibration like general weighing scales, I'll go to any organization recognized by the relevant government agency and they give you a statement that the 'master' used are traceable to certain national standards and with a reference to their calibration status.

For critical instruments, I'll look for the SAMM logo (National Laboratory Accreditation Scheme, Malaysia). ISO 9001 is not a determinant.

For TS related, I'll look for ISO 17025 as well.

Our company is both 17025 Accredited and 9001 registered. We have never had a need to display both symbols on our calibration certificates...... just haven't ever been asked by a customer. In all reality, 17025 covers 9001 completely in section 4, so the only reason we keep our registration is because we have some customers who don't understand this. When they ask to see that we are 9001 registered, we just show them our certificate from our registrar.

There are many reuirements from registrars and ABs on how to use their symbol versus their logo. I could not answer from the view of an auditor without contacting both your registrar and AB to get their take.

Daniel is correct, ISO 9001 is not truly necessary for an accredited lab - except if their customers are manufacturers that are ISO 9001 and whose Executives understand 9K but not 17025.....sometimes the lesser of the evils is to get the 9K to avoid the questions.....

Not perfect by any means, but sometimes pragmatic.....

'ISO' logo is a copyright logo and organizations cannot use these ISO logo on any of their issued certificates/test reports. However, these accreditated organizations/laboratories may use the local accreditation logo (after being accreditated to ISO 17025) such as DSM-Standards Malaysia (Malaysia); Singlas (Singapore); NATA (Australia since 1947); TELARC (NZ); UKAS (UK); FINAS (Finland); DANAK (Denmark); Hongklas (Hong Kong), etc. and in the US there are multiple Accreditation Bodies such as IAS, NVLAP, L.A.B., ACLASS, A2LA, and others.

Most test reports bear any of these accreditation logos and very rarely that these calibartion reports would carried any Certification Bodies logo relating to ISO 9001 certification scope! So technically, an ISO logo cannot be used on these calibartion lab. test reports.

On the other hand, there are several organizations which do not have ISO 17025 accreditation, have been putting ISO 9001-certification logo on these calibration reprot to confuse the public.

thank you for reading my mind :)

the customers who does not know the existence of 17025 accreditation would like it a lot if they can see the certification of 9001 on our certificate

its just that the 17025 symbol/logo can be placed on the product (i.e certificate of testing/calibration) but when it comes to 9001, some argue that its not supposed to be placed on a product because its a QS certification symbol/logo

just like once some argued that the 17025 logo/symbol is not supposed to be placed on our business cards because its not certifying(?) the business card

but i merely want to clarify that this opinion differs from one certification body to another and not a black and white no from either 17025 or 9001 point of view..

The Department of Standards has issued a document entitled, "Policy on the Use of SAMM Accreditation Symbol or Reference to SAMM Accreditation" - Issue 3, 28 February 2007 - and can be purchased for RM5.00. Pls visit www.standardsmalaysia.gov.my

I am sure you will be able to find out that the ISO 17025 SAMM Logo can be used on the Calibration/Test Reports.

Actually the logo of the AB showing you are accredited under ISO/IEC 17025 cannot be placed on a product. The AB logo cannot be used in a misleading manner. The logo can be used on certificates and reports, business cards, letterheads, etc., subject to your AB's rules, but never applied to a product.

Product certification is addressed under ISO Guide 65.
