Hi,
could somebody tell me or give any links to any concrete info sources about ISO 2895 / 3951 Switching Rules ?
I wonder how they differ, what inspections are used and how having batch history we can decide which inspection must be switched to? Moreover, it's very confusing about Discontinuation and SkipLot in the rules. As I supose there isn't any words about SkipLot in ISO 2895 standard, is it?

any sugestions, ideas are very welcome:)

ISO 2859 / 3951 Switching Rules

Thaks for reply!

I found out it a little bit confusing reading your supported source. ISO 2859 standard was counted as a Cilvilian Counterpart for Military Standard 105E. The same is with ISO 3951 and Military Standard 414. So what does it mean? Are ISO swithing rules the same as Military or they differ? Moreover I couldnt find switching rules for ISO 3951..

Moreover, questions:

1) Am I right thinking that discontinuation of inspection means "stop inspecting incoming lots and wait untill manufacturer improves production quality"?

2) SkipLot inspection. Does it appear in swithing rules for mentioned standards? If yes, when it must be swithed to and does it mean "let consider lots accepted without any inspection"?

3)Should we continue inspecting at the same inspection in case none of the swithing rules is satisfied?

thank you for your support and time.
replies are welcome:]

Welcome to The Cove, Edvinas! :bigwave:

I have found another source for you. I liked the referred sqconline site, but this one is more detailed. http://www.stats.uwo.ca/faculty/braun/ss316b/notes/acceptance/acc1.pdf See pages 93-95 for ISO 3951, which is the same as MIL-STD-414.

1) See this site for discontinuation of inspection: http://www.aqlinspectorsrule.com/manual/switch.htm

2) NIST is another good source for information. Skip lot sampling is discussed here: http://www.itl.nist.gov/div898/handbook/pmc/section2/pmc27.htm

3) Yes, the switching rules are used when the numbers justify them. Pages 64-73 of the stats.uwo.ca site (Acceptance Sampling Plans on .pdf) cover the switching rules.

I hope this helps!

Firstly, big thanks for your answer!

I've already seen most of your sugested sources which are very confusing, because they differ or has a lack of info. My interest is correctly implement swiching rules for ISO 2859 / 3951 standards. Maybe you could answer these arised questions:

1) ISO 2859 switching rules. In most sources switching to Reduced inspection has a condition with Limit Numbers taken from Table VIII (for example in your supported pdf). There are sources (for example: ***DEAD LINK REMOVED*** , see last slide) where it is stated that these limit numbers were droped out for ISO. And third version is at Inspectors Rule's page where ISO version for NormalToReduced sw.rule tells about Swithing Scores:] What is the right way and if it's with Limit Numbers, where could I find Table VIII?
2) I still can't find sw.rules for ISO 3951.
3) SkipLot inspection. I didn't manage to find how to consider coeficients i and f, used for SkipLot inspection. Maybe ISO standards has tables for it? or it is freely considered by authority? Moreover, how skip-lot must be organized? Is it switched on only working on Normal inspection?

Sincerely hope you will be able to help me:]

I have studied sampling plans and switching rules and conclude there is no rationale to switching rules. Unless you know the process has not changed, and that there is a continuous stream of product, then any sampling plan you choose is a snapshot in time, and it is hard to justify beyond some level of risk (Alpha and Beta) that an organization is willing to incur to ensure that on average there will be no more than some percentage of nonconforming product accepted (AQL and LTPD). Increasing or decreasing sample size or frequency is just a shift in the risk profile based on a series of snapshots.

I think you are better of doing a retrospective study all the data to see if the risk profile of the current plan is justified.

I'm glad to hear you say it. My position has always been, if your sampling plan results in finding defectives, you've proven that it works, so why would you want to change it? (Unless, of course, there's certain or near certain knowledge that you just got lucky.)
