The wire rope shops I call on all have a pull test device. They are pretty long, maybe 50 feet or so. There is a grate that closes over the top to contain things when the rope breaks. There is calibrated devices to read the pressure applied when the rope is pulled and can save the highest reading. When either a customer or the specification they are working to calls for a pull test, the test is performed. Sometines they want a "proof test" in which the rope is pulled to that "proof" level to confirm it didn't break. Sometimes they pull a sample of what is being purchased to the point it does break and report the pounds required to pull to distruction.
I don't see how you can do the same thing without an actual pull test. Trying to calculate how strong it should be from the wire manufacture is just not the same. Actual results are needed.
