ISO 9000 antagonist's book reprint

'The Case Against ISO 9000' by John Seddon is now in reprint in Japan - while sales have been slow in the Western world. Despite the fact that the Japanese lead in world-class operations, all of my Japanese contacts tell me Japanese managers thirst for knowledge - they are on the look out for something to give them an edge. My case against ISO 9000 is that it is the antithesis to world-class thing. Calling ISO 9000 'quality' is to talk it up.

John Seddons criticisms of ISO9001 are based on his argument that the standard has not delivered business improvement.

Was this standard originally written for this purpose ?
