ISO 9001:2000 Certification - We have been recommended!

Hello all,
I just want to thank everyone for their help. We had our ISO 9001:2000 Certification Audit and have been recommended for Certification!
I want to share my experience with everyone here because it may prove helpful to those awaiting certification.
We had a Preassessment in September. This was extremely helpful. We had no consultant except for the Cove Members reponses to my questions. We had a total of 21 nonconformances, one of which was a major. We went through the list and corrected all nonconformances found.
On November 25-27th we had our Certification Audit. Compared to our Preassessment Audit, the Certification Audit was intense but no where near as painful. We ended with two minor nonconformances (which were corrected while auditors were on site) and four obsevations.
I hope my short story helps all who may be thinking of impending doom.
Thanks again to all at the cove.

Congratulations.

I am curious...what was the "major" nonconformance?

Major Nonconformance

Our major nonconformance stemmed from an Industry Standard ASTM 48 - Tensile Strength Testing Procedure. We are a Cast Iron Soil Pipe & Fittings Manufacturer. We were not taking 3 sample test bars each time a sample was poured. The Industry Standard mandates that if a test bar fails, 2 retests must be taken. If both retests fail, all product manufactured must be scrapped. We had a failure of one test bar, and we did not have another test bar for the retests. Since we could not retest, the Auditor inquired if we scrapped the product - we did not. The reason the test bar failed was due to a gas bubble in the sample, all other tests taken for the production shift passed. The Auditor's perception was an "absence of a required procedure." Since we stated that we conformed to the industry Standard in our Quality Policy Manual, we had to comply completely to that standard.
The fix was easy - take 3 test samples each time we pour a sample, as stated by the Standard. We stated that if we have a failure of all samples, we would quarantine the product for scrapping.

I too would like to thank everybody in the cove, we just completed our ISO 9001-2000 certification audit, and we were recommended for CERTIFICATION. We had 8 minors and they were more a "DUH" type mistakes than anything critical.:magic::drunk::D
