I don't believe this is an accurate statement, if you are speaking of CB auditors.

There's a time when CBs expect the client will update their system. If a client has a system based on an obsolete standard, and the 'upgrade' deadline has passed, they must audit to the current version, no matter what the client's quality system is based on. If it hasn't been updated, a non-conformance will ensue........
This is fit case for an adjudication by an authoritative source.

Mr. Nichols (AndyN) is about as authoritative as you can get when it comes to CB's and auditors, he has many years working for certification bodies as do I and many others here in the Cove....

Many of the folks here are very seasoned professionals with years of experience in the auditing and 3rd party certification business with multiple industries and in many different countries and cultures, can you say the same? If not, the benefit of the doubt may help with the discussion.

Some members have similer views as mine.I am not doubting any bodies authority.

You can change all documents to new standard and get audited as per new standard. But if you donot change to new standard now the auditors will audit and confirm you in the name of old standard.V.J.Brahmaiah

There is no greater authority than ISO since it is their standard :

Validity of certifications to ISO 9001:2000
One year after the publication of ISO 9001:2008 all accredited certifications issued (new certifications or re-certifications) shall be to ISO 9001:2008.
Twenty four months after publication by ISO of ISO 9001:2008, any existing certification issued to ISO 9001:2000 shall not be valid.

Tony

Hi to all,
Well I will have 1st surveillance audit in November, I have trained our internal auditors about the changes on standards, but I'm not sure what is the minimun that I need to do in order to meet with ISO 9001:2008, I mean Do I need to review word by word our quality Manual? Do I need to complete a Management Review, etc. etc. I will appreciate your respone, I'm a new mommy and honestly I don't have much time to search in this foroum, my baby absorbs most of my time (and I enjoyed a lot but I have been out of the loop), also I have been tried to contact my lead auditor from my CB but without sucessful.
Thanks a lot for your input!!!

1. Know what's in it.
2. Know what the changes are - there's a list of 'em at the back.
3. Know how, if and where those changes affect you.
4. Have considered what changes (if any) you need to make to your system in the light of 1-3, and either done this, or have a reasonable plan of such action(s) in place.

This really has been extensively discussed before, and if you need more detail, then it's reasonable to suggest that you do a search because the information is available.

I had given this attachment from Andy to a number of people who found it useful: Spring Cleaning with ISO 9001_Apr 09.doc

Basically, this is how we do it here

1. Awareness (training if you want to be more formal) We need this part because of language problem
2. Review the changes and then document it - we choose to do it formally and in the form of a management review
3. Update documents (minimal if your documents are up-to-date)
