ISO 9001:2008 Assessment - Has anyone been audited yet?

Yes. The auditor asked for examples of how we were checking effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions, a statement that showed our management rep. was a member of managerment. If your system was not minumum alias "just get by", it will be no problem.

Just out of curiosity, why did the auditor need a statement saying the MR is a member of management?

Fine - quite reasonable to want to see evidence that this is occurring.

But this?

We just went thru ours 3 weeks ago. We had 3 non-conformances. 2 in the area of internal audit reporting (audit report format) and one related to a C/S form being used that was not in the QMS documentation.

It was tougher than I thought. Though I only had 6-8 weeks to upgrade our QMS system from ISO9001:2000 to the 2008 revision beforehand. Our previous management rep really dropped the ball on 2008 revision!

Why would it take 6-8 weeks to account for a revision to the standard that didn't include any changes in the requirements? Just out of curiosity, what was the problem with your internal audit report format?

Let's put it this way our internal auditors got lazy with the criteria, processes, samples collected that were listed on the internal audit reports during an audit. (Note: myself included). At this stage I have to re-training my internal auditors and go back to our audit training manuals. Also revise our audit report form to make them more user friendly.

Just to give you some background, we have been ISO certified since 1994. This is my second go-round as ISO mgmt rep. (First time 1994-2002) A division of our company is also AS9120 certified which occurred this year in August. I acted as an internal consultant over the first 8 months of this year to make that happen.

So the NCs were the result of your audit system (or forms) not being in compliance with your own internal requirements, as opposed to being in violation of the standard?

How about the long period needed to bring your 9001:2000 system into compliance with the 2008 version?

The upgrade audit was completed back in October, no nonconformances this time around with 4 opportunities for improvement. We underwent a change in scope with that audit as we are now included in one of our North America divisional Group certificates (just one of ten manufacturing sites in our divisional certificate). Our updated Cert arrived yesterday.

We just had our ISO 9001:2008 surveillance audit last week at our 2 aluminum foundries and we had a perfect audit - no action requests!
There were a few opportunities for improvement and basically that is all the auditor was focusing on since there were no nonconformances in any area. Cool.

It was mighty chilly at 31 degrees in the mornings out in the shop. Luckily the machinery was warm - kept trying to stand near them!!!

If your current documentation references "ISO 9001:2000," you will want to update it to "ISO 9001:2008." That should do it. 2008 contains no new requirements.
