Have you checked with your registrar? You may be surprised.
Anyone dealing with a senseless registrar just need to learn the 5 magic words: I will transfer my certificate.

Magically, upon hearing this unique combination of words in that sequence, they become much more reasonable.

That is quite a defiant attitude there Dude. Don't you believe that ISO has the right to protect their intellectual property? That is what this is about. you may be surprised to learn that some CBs are not willing to take that risk.

I don't see it that way. In a previous post in this discussion, I mentioned
Do as you please, as long as you don't infringe on misuse of trademarks.
ISO's logo can not be used without their consent and the registrar's certification marks have to be displayed according to their policies.

The words "ISO 9001 Certified" are not protected by copyright nor trademarks. If we could not use the expression "ISO 9001 certified" and were obligated to use "ISO 9001:2008 certified" any and every time we wrote it, this very Forum would be at fault, hundreds of times, every month.

Let's not attribute authoritative rights when none exist.

So your preference is to completely ignore the wishes of the hand that feeds you?

Again, have you asked your CB for their document on the subject? Have you reviewed your contract with the CB to see what you have committed to?

Your lack of response on the topic pretty much tells me that you have not.

I am not sure what you mean by that. The way I see it, ISO is the one who benefits from Industry mandating compliance to one of their standards; not the other way around.

I am retired. I don't work for any certified organization. But maybe you can post the authoritative document that mandates organizations to explicitly refer to the Edition of the standard when promoting their certification. And, I do not consider an ISO pamphlet as an authoritative document. I gave already examples of certification marks that don't mandate the revision of the standard. Another registrar's banner example for sale is here. I kindly ask you to post a document that supports the mandate you believe exists.

Reg,

You have misunderstood my position. From my original post on the topic I noted that there had been a change that allowed for not using the year, and that is my personal preference.

As to if you choose to accept or ignore guidance from either the CB over a company you do or have worked with or from ISO, that is up to you and I really don't care.

If your contention is that they don't need to use the year with ISO terminology, you and I agree.

Someone from a CB may want to weigh in here. I'll explain what I understand.

CBs are required to provide requirements for use of certification marks, including the ISO terminology as well as the use of the CB seal and the AB seals.

Auditors are required to check on the use of the marks.

Some CBs don't take this responsibility seriously. When I have recommended that a consulting client ask their CB for a copy of the document the CB is required to have developed, they have always been able to obtain one.

Roughly a year ago, I noticed in the document provided by one of the CBs that the year no longer needs to be included and was specifically so stated in the document.
It appears that the ISO web site does not reflect that change yet as shown on the link someone else provided.

I'm sure that the CB did not make it up, as they also state that they would prefer that the date be included. I don't know if this was ISO driven or AB driven, but I'm sure it came from one or the other or both.

So to the OP, I strongly suggest that you ask your CB and also ask for their document that explains the proper use of the certification marks.

I occasionally see trucks that say "ISO 9001:2000 Certified," and not long ago I saw one that said "QS 9000 Registered."
I will call you, and raise you with ISO 9002 Certified: Yep, I saw a truck with that little novelty plastered all over its side last month. No, it was not one of our suppliers (I checked). :D All things considered, I would refrain from that particular kind of advertising: I seriously doubt that it brings you more business, it gets old in a hurry, and is thoroughly embarrassing when it does.
