As you know, Jim, some mechanical measuring and test equipment is subject to wear. An effective calibration system will assess the amount of "wear" available on the device before the acceptable limit is reached and, therefore, recall the equipment for disposition, rather than - arbitrarily - setting a recall and hoping to find it within limits at that time.
