ISO 9001:2015 Clause 8.7 Control of Nonconforming Outputs

Thanks for your clarification.

I would apply clause 8.7 to any nonconforming output from the system and to any process within the scope of the system.

Such process, system, service and product nonconformities would be subject to correction and may be worthy of corrective action (removal of root causes)

BTW, errors may not result in nonconformities, that depends on the design of the process being robust enough for errors not to become nonconforming outputs.

Is it Mean final products or servcies or the output from each process in system?
Output is defined by ISO 9000:2015 as "result of a process". If we substitute its definition to clause 8.7, then its title will be read as "Control of Nonconforming Results of Processes". To better understand what are nonconforming outputs (8.7), organizations need to know first what are the expected outputs of the processes (4.4.1a). Nonconforming output is the opposite of expected output. See examples below for various processes:

ISO 9001:2015 Clause 8.7 Control of Nonconforming Outputs

Other than the "results of the processes", clause 8.7 applies also to "outputs of the organization". Refer to 8.7.1 statement i.e. "This shall also apply to nonconforming products and services detected after delivery of products, during or after the provision of services".

Tony,

The content of the bottom right cell in your table bothers me.

Audit findings are substantiated during the audit and should not be a nonconforming output caused by a tardy audit report.

Late audit reports show contempt for the requirements; thereby undermining quality.

Has anyone taken this apparent mistake up with its authors?

Since I want to establish that nonconforming output is the opposite of expected output, there are, actually, two opposites in the statement "On-time submission of accurate reports". One is "late" and the other one is "unsubstantiated". Unsubstantiated here means "unsupported" or "without clear basis".

Good day @sunrizenew ;
It depends. I assume by "client" you are referring to your customer ?

Assuming the customer's complaint is valid (i.e. confirmed that output is indeed nonconforming), then...

8.7 would be the consideration of how to control and/or segregate that output.
- Does the customer's "product" need contained and/or returned to you?
- Does your organization have same or similar "product" still in your facility that needs contained/verified?
- Is there "product" in transit to your customer that is also suspect and needs contained/verified?

8.7 is the governance for any control and segregation of the output (product)

Once any necessary control of actual and/or suspect output/"product" is dealt with, then...
10.2 is corrective action to eliminate root cause required?
- Does the customer require corrective action to eliminate root cause?
- When your organization ' 10.2.1-b "evaluate(s) the need for action to eliminate the cause of the nonconformity...", did your organization determine it IS necessary to eliminate the cause of the nonconformity?

10.2 is the governance of identifying and eliminating root cause IF that is determined to be required.

Hope this helps.
Be well.

Deal with the nonconforming output first using 8.7. If your organization believes that the nonconforming output can be prevented from recurring and would want to prevent it, then proceed to 10.2.

If an organization sends a quote that is way way way overpriced due to a typo and you don't get the business, would the boss consider that a non-conforming output?
