Dr. Nigel Croft, chairman of the ISO Technical Committee 176, Subcommittee 2 (the committee responsible for the maintenance and revisions to the ISO 9001 standard) will provide us with an update of the ISO 9001 revision.

According to information from LinkedIn, the CD ballot was positive and the document has been approved to progress to DIS. The 3 subsidiary ballots were also approved and that means that ISO 9001:2015 will use the term "goods and services" rather than product; continual improvement becomes improvement and no need to exclude bits and pieces of the standard to claim conformity; i.e., no more exclusions.

I heard that around 10,000 comments were received concerning the CD. For the most part, such comments will have to be processed by the TC 176 SC 2/WG 24.

Besides removal of preventative actions - I also heard that a Quality Manual will no longer be required as well. Anyone else heard that rumor?

Yes, I read the draft. But we can use the Company Control Framework to align the management system to the Corporate framework. Preventive action?? Nobody understood it anyway from the time it was incorporated in the current standard. It is being linked to a Corrective Action. It is not a sustainable type of activity except in HSSE&SP Control Framework.

No statement for a quality manual and gone are the 6 mandatory documented procedures (thank goodness).

Just 2 simple statements that the QMS must include:

Documented information required by the standard and

Documented information required by the organisation necessary for the effectiveness of the QMS

It also mandates that the organisation must use the process approach. Who is going to be the 1st auditor to raise an NC because the organisation just updated their 2008 version of the QMS? - which was an update of 2000, which was an update of 1994 - long before the 'process approach was mentioned in the standard - though many good consultants and Quality managers were doing it that way anyway.
