ISO 9001:2015 Transition Internal Audit completion thread

That's fine, in fact every single transition audit I've done that's what has happened, normal audit - verify the extra/changed 2015 stuff is happening - report - review - go have lunch. And then I've done my kicking over the trash can - SUCCESS! No muss, no fuss, no crazy re-write everything, jump thru this hoop and that hoop, clean and simple.

Too many people made too much fuss over a simple activity. The audit I just finished TODAY was successful for the organization using the above example of their use of a simple GAP, and filling in any hole without their really changing diddly from the previous year and 2008. Nice little correspondence table pointing to where all the 2015 stuff lines up with the old 2008, done deal.

I don't mean to sound ugly, harsh or simplistic but like I've said, it isn't rocket science, I audit rocket scientists and they don't do this stuff.

I'd like to hear a CB define what they mean by this! Why not just audit the changes you made (ISO 9001:2015 9.2.2 requires that you take them into consideration). If you've already been auditing and there's not much changed, why do the whole thing? Sounds like mission creep to me...
Greetings,
That sounds like what our CB said.

Last year we transitioned from AS9100C to the new Rev. D standard.
We had already completed all of our 26 Internal Audits to Rev. C in February, and our transition audit was scheduled for October. I called our CB and asked what to do.

I received the following response:

As discussed on our call, I feel that if you conduct a round of Internal Audits to the old revision C and follow that up with a supplemental audit to the new revision D, that would satisfy the AS9100D 9.2.1 (a.1.) requirement. That is, as long as all requirements that are new to the rev D are covered by the supplemental audits.

We performed a gap analysis and found that many of our processes weren’t impacted by the new standard, so those Rev. C audits stayed the same.

We re-audited the processes that were impacted to the Rev D standard and submitted them as supplemental audits. The audit went well.

A great deal of credit for our successful Transition to AS9100D goes the knowledgeable folks at the Cove.

To wrap this up. I went ahead and scheduled all audit topics internal just in case. I'm taking the bulk, with a few I can't do due to it being my area (internal audit process) going to members of our internal auditor pool.

I spoke to my CB and asked the question, they had me talk directly to the auditor who has been assigned to my recertification/transition audit. He stated that as long as the areas in our internal audit system that were affected by the update are audited, there is no reason to arbitrarily audit the entire QMS. Since our internal audits are setup in a process manner, vs. auditing per standard topic numbering, it is even easier to defend that position.

I'm still planning on doing most of the audits anyway to give some coaching and information to the area/process managers/owners, check calibrations, doc control, etc... but now I know.

Thanks for the feedback. This sort of information helps us all.

I came into my company 4 weeks before our transition audit and no audits had been completed to the 2015 standard. I did the audits on the "new" and "changed" parts of the standard. Explained the situation to the auditor and he took into account that I had come into a mess but had done my best to catch up.

We had a 14001 transition audit (not my area). No audits had been completed to the 2015 standard, and we didn't even get a minor!

I think a lot depends on the auditor

I'd suggest NOT paying the invoice...
