Re: ISO offers free-of-charge ISO 9001:2000 'auditing kit'

One more paper added to the series: Added Value Audits versus Consultancy

An interesting piece of advice
Instead of simply looking for formal compliance with the requirements of the standard, auditors should look at the real effectiveness of the management system and find out the benefits that the adoption of the system give to the organization and to its clients. In other words, they should try to determine whether the management system is applied to maintain and continuously improve the performance of the organization and its ability to deliver the expected outcome by meeting customer expectations and addressing legal and regulatory requirements. To this purpose, auditors should have real knowledge and understanding of the technical and managerial issues concerning the business and industry sector in which the audited organization operates.

Auditing should be carried out by:-

  • examining the organization’s processes;
  • discussions with the process owners and other relevant personnel;
  • prioritizing the assessment of critical areas and highlighting the associated risks.
Risk based approach to audits...Where did I see that....?:tg:

Re: ISO offers free-of-charge ISO 9001:2000 'auditing kit'

Like many others I am very new to the ISO 9001 Process. We are a small company working towards our certification and a set of documents such as those listed in the post above for ISO 9001, 2000 on the APG site would be very useful for us.

Does anyone know of a similar set and if so where could I find them??

Thanx in advance.

Peter

What kind of documents are you looking for? The ones in the APG site are not only listed, but hyperlinked to.

Re: ISO offers free-of-charge ISO 9001:2000 'auditing kit'

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I have now tracked down the documents you mentioned and had a read through them which is very informative.

I guess I am looking for any examples of procedures, checklists etc that would be a spring board to get me started. Style and layouts preferred by auditors, how do they feel about flow charts as peocedures rather than just text etc.

We are also looking to work towards 14001 as we are working in the water industry. So how do we manage that, do the standards have to be kept seperate or can procedures be amalgamated?

Sorry for the long list of questions but I want to get things moving!!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Peter

Don't worry about what the auditors prefer, focus more on what will be helpful to the users and their needs.

You can find plenty of examples of procedures and other documents if you click on the green Post Attachments List at the top of the page and do a search.

You can combine them if it makes sense. Whatever works best for your organization.
