ISO 9001 Internal Audits - No production right now due to furloughs

Hi all,
I am in the process of gathering everything I need in order to perform an initial internal ISO 9001 audit to then be able to schedule the real thing. My question is if we do not have any production right now due to furloughs am I able to do so/ is it worth doing without production. For frame of reference we are a small UV light based engineering company. Let me know if any other information would help

You can audit other business processes now and leave the product realization processes for another time.

Discuss and agree your audit objective with top management as your audit client.

Hi, Aswartout, You can audit other sections according to your company's current status, other than the process of production. Regardless of how the company's internal and external environments vary, you need to apply corresponding actions according to its vary to make sure that the management system is operating continually and effectively.

Our main goal is to determine our preparedness for an actual ISO 9001 audit for certification, the need wasn't brought up by a client but internally from upper management/investors.

The audit client initiates the audit, pays for it sets the objective; so upper management/investors are the audit client.

To determine the viability of your audit objective you may have to ask your accredited registrar if they are willing to certify a system as conforming to ISO 9001 given no production.

If the answer is no, then advise your audit client that the best you can do is determine if the system as documented conforms to ISO 9001 as verified by whatever processes are actually working.

They may still give you the go ahead to fulfill this modified (lesser) audit objective or they may ask you to wait.
