Gentlemen, I have just been nominated as QAR in our company. We have been ISO 9002 certified for 6 months. I have been going through our Quality manuals and everything looks self explanatory. I need training for ISO/ Internal Auditing etc.
My question is, is there ANY institution which offers accredited correspondance courses. The company will pay but i cant leave my position here sor longer that a day or two. Ideally i would like to become a lead auditor in the oil industry.
Anyone Please give me any information which may be helpful. I am in Singapore. If the training is in the USA,UK i need to do it correspondance

Thanks
Rob

I really don't know. Have you tried an internet search for 'online courses quality' or something similar? Sorry I can't help here.

Hello Marc

Interesting that this should come up again. Im sure there is a market out there somewhere, especially for a company or someone with a good/established name (such as yourself) to offer on-line training.

At the moment i am searching on behalf of a client for trainers/companies that can offer training in certain areas. ie I have found and contracted with a software trainer who has trained EVERYONE in the company up to a certain standard (In the Office package). He also takes all new recruits, checks them and puts them through the same standard course to ensure that everyone in the company is on a broadly similar level.

I am looking for a trainer who will do something similar for Problem Solving Technics and Teamwork.

The niche i think would be somewhere in the region of 'Basic Quality Management Knowledge'. As a HR manager or a QM Manager, i think i would be prepared to stand up and justify the money if i could direct the staff or new recruits to an online company, in the knowledge that in three weeks or three months they come back with at least a bsaic knowledge of QMS's. To me it would offer a cheap simple solution for training.

Just a thought.

Regards

I'd have to get real ambitious to take this one. This has come up a number of times in the last 3 or 4 years. I think it was a friend of Barb's who even started a 'test' site. I met with a guy from a local college out of Dayton, OH about 3 years ago who wanted to do an on-line ISO course - but conversations didn't go too far. I think the guy was on coke or speed - he was real hyper and spaced out. It is a good idea, though. I'm not sure what the development tools would cost. I looked into that stuff a couple of years ago but don't remember much about it. Back then (ahemmm) there were still significant browser and platform issues - IE on a Mac, for example, may not work or Netscape on a PC. I'm sure those issues have been reasonably solved by now and browsers have evolved - so it may no longer be an issue.

I do seem to remember a web site which was set up as a sort of clearing house for on-line training but can't remember the name or anything.

Anyone out there want to partner in such a venture? Maybe we can find venture capital, get a site going, go public, sell tons of stock and then sell our stock and retire on a few hundred million...

Marc is right, Needs lots of ambition and focus/time... it easier said than done. Have a contact who has an interactive training web site, I had the courses you speak of, but never got it off the ground. Everytime I did a demo, somebody would have trouble getting the site to open. He was going to do CD roms for me but I dropped the ball. Some college in California was doing it...as does ZDU.com so all they need is the content I suppose...its all too technical for me...LOL

Hello Barb, Hello Marc,

If the problem is only technical - it is easy solvable.
I have been dealing with the issue of distance learning at the St.Petersburg University (Russia) for a couple of years. I am acquainted with all this technology staff and pedagogical approaches. Moreover I have a lot of materials to be published and used for teching Quality.
One problem is in enterprneural approach to this business. Another thing is respectable name in the quality world on behalf of whom I could start this training.
So any offers are welcome. All programming at least, can be easily done by St.Petersburg programmers. Their work is of extremely high quality and is cheap, as you know.

What you really come down to is money. I don't have the money to hire others. Nor am I aggressive enough to structure courses myself. Then comes the issue of who will recognize the course. I give certain courses but they're not officially recognized for CEUs (continuing education units), for example.

If I was a good, aggressive business person I would have done this a few years back. When I did discuss it and asked about people interested in partnering a while back, the response was essentially mute.

So far I hear that you can provide course material and that you know of people who can do the web code. I'd say your next needs are:

Obtain some sort of accreditation (after making course and have defined content, etc.)

Advertising - Selling (the hardest part)
