If I have an ISO certified location and I acquire a firm located in Canada, do I have to get them ISO certified as well? From an ISO standpoint.
Thanks
Welcome to the Cove, KKUSA.
Do you have to get ISO certification? No. I don't think you ever
have to become registered to ISO 9001. There is always a choice....granted, sometimes if you don't, your Customers may go elsewhere and you'll be put out of business, but that's a choice, nevertheless.
ISO 9001 registrations are site-specific. Currently, your registration is for your older location. You do have the option to expand the scope of your registration to include the newer address. Keep in mind that this will also extend the length of your audits.
Of course, we do not know the relationship of the Canadian location to your American one and this could impact the registration.
For example, my location is registered to ISO 9001. We are a manufacturing company. Our sales locations, however, are located in 2 off-site areas. As sales is vital our process, both sales officers fall under the scope of our ISO 9001 registration.
If your Canadian and American locations are completely independent from each other, there is no need to have them both registered.
If your Stakeholders are asking for it, however, then you need to decided if it practical to have both location registered.
