Hi folks,

How you control ur ISO documents in your firms? I mean using what kind software. These documents includes manual, procedures, instructions, inspection records, training materials and records, engineering design, production plan, production travellers and all others.

I guess MS Access can carry out this task but somebody can advice other better softwares else?

thanks.

Most of my clients just have a directory on a company server to store their documents. It is protected so that only authorized personnel can modify, add, or delete controlled documents there.

Assume have 100 part number with different engineering specification and process requirements. It be expected that everything appear on production traveller so that operators and inspectors can follow easy. Then a datebase is required.

Also, for security requirements, it also needs a datebase to make sure employee (data entry) can only enter the data, view the document but can not modify it.

I am gussing there is a simple software can carry out this kind easy task. (I really do NOT like MS Access).

Happy Thanksgiving day!!!

When I was a quality manager I developed a database similar to what you are describing. I did it in... (you guessed it) MS Access. :bonk:

Sorry I can't help. I personally like Access...

Donald,

If you are looking for a way to protect documents but still allow all users to access them I suggest making them available your company intranet (if you have one). It is much easier than MS Access and you can apply read-only properties to the documents.

I'd agree with howste and mshell. Use network rights to control access to folders, OR save documents with passwords (or both if yer real 'noid). BUT I maintain others should use what we have: an MS database to log who makes what document revisions, prompt for doc reviews and record purging, create reports on late reviews/revisions, create master record, document, stats and calibrated tool lists; log authors and reviewers, storage locations and methods; define media types; reconcile records; prevent premature data loss, open electronic records/documents, etc. etc. The same software can also manage information for calibrated tools and statistical techniques, has a complete Help file and is still less than $400 per license.

Donald,
Go to this thread I put up a while ago. It has a link to a 'Document Register' that is 'FREE' and will manage ALL of your documents in any format (word, Excel etc). My company uses it across all of our sites (600 kilometers apart) over the intranet.

I hope it helps.
