My boss asked me recently if I thought that there were many companies outside of the U.S. that were TS registered or were working towards it. He seems to feel that the automotive companies are only pushing the U.S. companies towards TS, and not those overseas. I wasn't able to give him an answer, so I thought that I'd put this question to the Cove members. Anyone have any thoughts or statistics that they can share?

Thanks!

We Hindalco Ind. Ltd. (Unit - Aluminum Alloy Wheel Division) Silvassa were certified with ISO/ TS 16949:2002 way back in 2002. Again for our Radiator Foil (Aluminum) stock we have achieved ISO/ TS 16949:2002 in 2003.

I know one more company, Jai Bharat Maruti has achieved ISO/ TS 16949:2002 in 2002, two - three months before us.

There must be atleaset 100 + companies by now who has achieved ISO/ TS 16949:2002. There are good number of companies who has TS 16949:1999 (Prior to 2002)

TS Registered outside the US............

From what we are seeing, more and more customer's (and potential customer's) here in the UK are demanding registration. I cannot give you any statistics, but over the next 12 months or so, we believe if you dont have it the business will go to those that have.

is there a website where we can check who's being certified and who's not ? i remember seeing this for QS9000.....

There is a web site published by Quality Digest that lists certified organizations, for a fee. It may or may not list everyone. It depends on whether or not the registrar submits their clients name.

Ive been in automotive in the UK for 7 years. I moved to Canada last year and I can tell you without making scientific surveys that a lot more companies in Europe than in North America are already certified.
I was working towards it in my first company in 2000. My last employer got it in about 2000 too and we upgraded to TS02 in 2003.
Here in Canada, the group I work for all went for it for the first time this year (and we’re talking major international corporation)

Without wanting to offend you or any other North American, Jonell, I think Europe is way ahead of NA in quality/business systems and working leaner/smarter etc.

You should try and get a trip abroad and see it for yourself sometime :biglaugh:

There are about 100 companies certified to TS2 in Malaysia up to August 2004.

Thanks everyone!

Jane,
Thanks for the input, and definitely no offense taken here. I've been showing these answers to the boss, lol, I'm not sure he's all that pleased with them, but hey, if you don't want answers, then don't ask questions!

To all others,
Thanks so much for all the answers, :agree1: . This is exactly what he needed to see, in order to believe that the "Big 3" aren't just picking on the US companies. It has definitely helped him to understand that TS is a global standard!

Thanks!

China seems to have a huge number of companies registered or seeking registration to TS2. There, Volkswagen (non-US) is apparently the largest OEM for vehicles locally, although I'm sure a lot of parts manufactured there make their way to other countries...

We can confirm this as the number of companies contacting us promoting the fact has increased 10 fold.
