If the original poster has had a change of such proportion I wonder why he/she is still in the buisness of making things happen, changing buisness and improving. As most of you say put your heart in and you will get the beat1 otherwise you loose out, honestly buisness is better with it, but don't over egg it with those chickens!

Hi Jackweed13,
ISO9001:2008 as a set of guidelines is pretty tight in terms of setting out the requirements for a generic quality management system. The QMS generated as a result though can definitely let an organisation down in terms of effectively controlling quality and generating continual imrovement activities.
If an ISO9001:2008 based quality system isn't working the managing director is ultimately accountable.
The right procedures, the right auditing schedules - appropriate corrective and preventive actions are brought to life by a quality rich culture. If the culture isn't there in the first place then it is always going to feel like ISO9001:2008 is not working for you. ISO9001:2008 isn't officially a joke - Peoples reactions to it when the pressure is on is quite funny though because they get irrational instead of being resourceful. Our emphasis shouldn't really be on ISO9001:2008 and the way the current certification process works anyway. Dealing with the problems at hand is the way forward, step by step.

Hey here's a joke,

How did the chicken cross the road?
Step by step...he was into continual improvement!!

I agree with Silentrunning. It is what you make it. ISO standards are sometimes just seen as a badge on the wall and nobody realises the how to make standards/compliance benefit them and give something back.

Has anyone posting in this thread managed to make ISO benefit them ratgher than using up resources and taking too much time?

Even your chicken feet are registared to the ISO9001:2008 standards!
It is not the product that is ISO registered, it is the company's Quality/Business System.

Your company can certainly make its registration a joke and feel content with a piece of paper hanging on the wall of your lobby, but the intent of the registration and surveillance activities are to ensure continual improvement. As Management Representative, I have spent a notable amount of my energy making my company's certification mean something, and we have seen improvement and new business because of it.

Yes, the registrars have an interest in your company remaining registered and having favorable results of audits, but so did your professors during your formal education. You, again, can certainly "earn" a degree and not have learned anything whatsoever, but you would regret that approach to your education as you would be faced with failure after failure in your professional life. You can draw a parrallel of this analogy to your company's ISO/AS registration.

Learn it, Use it, Win it.

The ISO standards are like anything else in life the more you put into it the more you you get out of it.

I think Jack may be just laying back and watching all defend.:2cents:
