It is not the product that is ISO registered, it is the company's Quality/Business System.
Your company can certainly make its registration a joke and feel content with a piece of paper hanging on the wall of your lobby, but the intent of the registration and surveillance activities are to ensure continual improvement. As Management Representative, I have spent a notable amount of my energy making my company's certification mean something, and we have seen improvement and new business because of it.
Yes, the registrars have an interest in your company remaining registered and having favorable results of audits, but so did your professors during your formal education. You, again, can certainly "earn" a degree and not have learned anything whatsoever, but you would regret that approach to your education as you would be faced with failure after failure in your professional life. You can draw a parrallel of this analogy to your company's ISO/AS registration.
