Italian CEI 62.5 Compliance - Any idea if it's the equivalent of EN 60601?

Dear All,

We have a customer in Italy that is asking about compliance to CEI 62.5.

This is not one that I've previously come across. It seems to be related to 60601-1. Does anyone know if this is indeed just their version of 60601 and whether they have any particular requirements of their own?

Thanks,

Dave

Re: Italian CEI 62.5 Compliance - Any ideas?

It seems that it´s the 60601 standard. Looked for CEi 62.5 on Google and found some interesting links, the majority with something linke "CEI 62.5 (EN 60601-1)".

It seems that this is the italian implementation of EN 60601-1.

I could not find the italian standards association to confirm.

See for example http://www.associazioneitalianabioingegneria.it/default.asp?pagina=34&sez=246

Yes, CEI 62.5 seems to be the equivalent of EN 60601.

CEI – Comitato Elettrotecnico Italiano – is the Italian institution, formally recognised by the Italian Government and by the European Union, that prepares and publishes technical standards in the electrical, electronic and telecommunication fields. More info can be FOUND HERE

The site mentions that SECTION 62 pertains to Electrical Equipment in Medical Practice.

Do you want to clarify with the Italian customer ?

I have seen several IEC standards in both English & French (on alternating pages). The English pages say "IEC", the French "CEI".

Hi QA-Man,

Yes, yes, those French........:D

The acronym for the European Community is EC.

The EC product certification mark is CE. A compromise perhaps to keep the French happy?

From Wikipedia: Officially, CE has no meaning as an abbreviation, but may have originally stood for Communauté Européenne or Conformité Européenne, French for European Conformity.

:lmao:I think your a little off. I am talking about the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) which in French is Commission Electrotechnique Internationale (CEI). Take a look:

QA-Man,

No, not really, I was trying to show another example of how one acronym in English, became another acronym in French for the purpose of preventing "ruffling European feathers."

Obviously, I failed in this attempt. :D Trust me, I do know the difference between the IEC and CE.....

Happy New Year!

[pedantry] One thing that IEC and CE have in common is that neither is an acronym. [/pedantry]
