Job Descriptions - Is there a specific format required for job descriptions?

Hi everybody!

What I wanna know is that is there any specific kind of format required for job descriptions. I mean if we say that we have defined our job descriptions in our procedures. will it fulfil ISO 9001 requirements or we have to maintain separate proceudres for that purpose.

There is no specified format for job descriptions, or for job descriptions at all.

If your procedures define responsibilities for the various quality activities, job descriptions (or other documents) only need to define the qualifications required for the position, such as education, training and experience.

In our manual, I've put a 4 line or so job description, and a full description in the personnel file for reference only. Our auditor is happy with this.

There is no specific format that is needed for job descriptions. What Miner has stated would meet the intent of the standard, in my opinion.

Job Descriptions

Actually at one place we have defined a responsibility matrix, which shows person designation horizontally at top & correspondingly responsibilities showing vertically. question is will that be enough?

That should satisfy the responsibility requirement.

How do you address the qualification (minimum education/training/experience/certification) requirement?

This may be covered in the internal/external job postings for new jobs provided the candidate was assessed against these requirements and training needs identified where appropriate.

actually HR department has these things. we have given everything like minimum education/training/experince/certification requirements.
exactly, what we do that HR department hire people based on the check list we have provided them. But once he/she hired we take care of all his training needs.

As you people had discussed there is a no specific format for this. what we have in our organization is similar to a skill matrix and also the various competencies thrown in for a good measure. This was very useful when we wanted to assess a person at the time of interview or during a job performance.

Can you post your companies example or does anyone have an example of this matrix?? Our registar had a few issues with our macro view of employees and there duties. As a company we have signed off on individual tasks / procedures / work instruction, ect. I think he is looking for something more. I want to stay away from job descriptions for the fact that everyone wears numerous hats. We are following ISO 13485, any thought??

Yes, I have a few JDs available with me. Some are from my company and some for other companies. I do not have any problem to share with you. I shall be sending those stuff to Mark requesting him to please post at this Thread.
