Thank you for the template!
Does anybody know some standards (e.g. ISO, BS, directive, or procedure ECSS or else) which established requirements to the content of the Job Traveler/ Work Order Do those standards exist?
Thank you for your answer

Welcome Pan And!

I don't know about ECSS or BS, but the ISO standards I have worked with have stayed away from directing what goes into a job traveler/work order. Your work flow and/or control plan (steps of which align with your process flow I expect) should help you define what steps to include.

What else you include depends on what other documents are in place to define specific details, and provide a means to record outcomes and help your processes by giving details that would allow your team to collect data later and address things like issues at particular process steps. These can include, but may not be limited to:
  • Machine set up
  • Machine ID for each different machine used (process steps: cut, lathe, drill, hone, etc)
  • First piece inspection
  • In-process inspection
  • Final inspection
  • Tooling changes
  • ID of calibrated instruments used
  • ID of Operator
  • ID of accepting Inspector
  • Date the job was run
  • Traceability: lot/batch numbers, Mfg date or other
  • Whatever else is important to your customer (cleanliness protocols or checks?)
I hope this helps.

Thank you a lot Jen Kirley, for your information!

Our company wants to compliance with the requirements of foreign or international standards and I need to understand how does the Job Traveler/ Work Order has to look like and in accordance with the requirements of what standards. The fact is that we have the analogical document contents and form of which is regulated by a national standard but the aim is the same - approving that operation of the manufacturing process was done and also documented ensuring of the traceability for parts which have been produced (means connection the part or detail with the document).
I have thought that might be some document such as standard that regulates requirements for content of Job Traveler/ Work Order and that's why I have started searching and asking this question on this forum. Any information about that will really help me.

Pan And,

I do not think we will find a standard that defines what must be included in a Work Order/Traveler. This is because a QMS has so many choices in how to document the items I listed above.

If processes are automated, there is little need for a Work Order/Traveler. Organizations that do production work on an order-by-order basis (sometimes called "job shops") may have more need for Work Orders/Travelers. However, even then the detail can be affected by what the drawing/specification says and how procedures are made available to process people - and the details those procedures include. Duplicating information is not something I support unless it helps the organization study what took place or some other useful purpose. Some organizations don't even like to record which instruments were used to inspect, claiming the instruments are traceable by their being assigned to their users.

If the customer requires a Work Order/Traveler to list specific information, that is a requirement. Other than that, the organization is responsible to determine how process information is being managed.

Thanks so much for your explanation! I understand that the main decision about the documenting of the processes accepts the organization, but I've thought that decision might be in conformance with requirements of the industry standards, that's why I've been asking questions about that.
