Moreover, if somebody claims that changes to ISO 9001:2008 are negligible and its awareness should not be evaluated, why should we not consider this activity as refresher course to ISO 9001. If first time awareness should be evaluated, the refresher one should also be.
Before any training is given, it should be decided whether someone needs to be competent in the requirements of ISO 9001:2008.
It's all too common for training to be 'thrown' at people because someone thinks it's going to be 'good' for them, or to make them able to be 'audited'. The fact is, only a small percentage of the population of an organization needs to know anything about 'ISO' and certainly not trained or even refreshed on it! I'd certainly like to see a management sanctioned job descriptions (and the applicable training budget) associated with training people to be competent in ISO.......
If we spent more time ensuring that management understood and took ownership of the purpose, application, implementation and benefits of an effective management system (and left ISO out of it) we'd have more time on our hands to improve things.
