The KISS Principle
Steve,
Could you let me know what is the "KISS" principle? I am not familiar with that term. I am also tasked with implementing ISO, and from where I sit I have a HUGE undertaking. My company wants to have ISO implemented and knows there will be big changes over the long run, but they also want to see short term results. What do you suggest?

I'm sure the forum moderator may want to move this discussion to an appropriate board, but...
The "KISS" principle was something an old college professor mentioned and it stuck. It's not real flattering, but makes a point: K I S S - "Keep It Simple Stupid". If you get past the final "S", it's true. Keeping things less complex is the better way to go.
To your other question - When I was with the company where we implemented ISO from scratch, we went through the standard and looked at what we were already accomplishing. Our biggest hole was in supplier certification and monitoring and, believe it not, calibration records. If you have any kind of management system currently in place (i.e. Quality Manual) and your business is doing fairly well, you're probably already meeting a good portion of the standard. This is a general statement, but I've found it true for the most part. I'd review the current system against the standard and show all the good things you're already doing, then begin work on beefing up the rest.
I don't know if this really helps, but I'm sure the other Cover's out there will offer suggestions as well.
