Lean Hospital - Implementing a quality/lean/six sigma program

Hello everyone,

I just joined a large hospital system and I am implementing a quality/lean/six sigma program modelled after programs I have implemented in manufacturing. I am borrowing from auto including TS16949, 20 keys, lean (GE approach), six sigma, Dupont STOP program and others.

I look forward to sharing and learning from others operating in a hospital environment. Is anyone out there doing the same?

We've implemented lean sigma is a number of hospitals. The biggest issues were the same in each hospital. Number one was getting the necessary folks assembled. It seems hospitals have very large and well established silos. Tearing down those silos so there would be cross-department communication and cooperation was not without pain. We also experienced issues with egos.

The flip side is once they got a taste of a little victory and how much they gained from communication and cooperation, the process picked up steam quite quickly.

The end result was rather marked improvements in both quality and efficiency.
