Lean Manufacturing in Oil & Gas Industry

Hello my name is Dike Ebi. I've been working as a piping Field Service Engineer within the Oil & Gas services industry.

Most of my assignments are project based, but I have come to realize that I can benefit from other methodologies other than the ones normally used for projects. After some online research I got to know lean six sigma to be a very useful tool especially in operations, quality, and general business process development. So I'm currently looking for any material that can assist me to be up and running with the tools . An assistance is highly appreciated. Thanks.

Six Sigma tools is all statistically analysis and one require to collect a lot of data before it become useful. Before applying Six Sigma or any tool, try to determine what value it adds to your project.
I.e.
• Will it reduce cost,
• reduce planning or
increase productivity etc...
Root cause analysis and 5 why thinking is a given and should be applied to all processes as you need to address the issue up stream and prevent recurrence. The statistical Tools may be great for calculus, especially for the engineers.

I have recently bumped into a book entitled "Liquid Lean". I find it a very good read and is specific for processing industries. I recommend you grab a copy.
