Load/unload parts between same operator's repetitions - General approach

Hi there,

During the execution of the GRR, are you unloading / loading the parts between same operator's repetitions, or only between the different operators?

I'm used to unload them on both.
Spoke to another guy and he told me he's used to unload only between different operators.

The measurement process is parts manually loaded on a jig and measured automatically by an optical machine.

I have a doubt and I didn't find any clue about that (is there somehting mentioned in the MSA 3rd edition?)

Thanks

Re: Load/unload parts - General approach

You should always unload/reload parts between ALL measurements. The fixturing and how the parts rest in the fixtures is part of the repeatability of the measurement device.

Re: Load/unload parts - General approach

THanks Miner, that's what I was thinking, but would like to be sure.
It is something clearly stated in the MSA somewhere?

No. It is not spelled out, but you do want to duplicate the measurement process each time. The first time you measure a part, you have to place it in a fixture, so you should repeat the entire process each time.

I have found where in the MSA it is mentionned.
Well they are not saying "you have to unload the parts", but it's a general sentence that's tell you to include this type of variation...
I will post that next week.

I assume in the repeatability highlighted section, it clearly state that thinking of "pure machine repeatability" is a common mistake, and that all variable should be take in account (inc. operators / jig variations).

As english is not my mother tongue does someone could confirm my thoughts? thanks

Your interpretation is correct. This does confirm that unload/reload should occur between all measurements.

BTW, if you are randomizing all of the measurements as intended, this forces you to unload/reload.
