Fatma,

Sorry for not interpreting your question correctly.

Determine the processes that are essential to delivering quality services and products that are owned by these functions.

For example:

IT - Maintaining the computer network
Logistics - Ensuring ontime deliveries

These functions may own other processes that are vital to the success of your management system.

Best not to narrow their view as process owners by referring to clauses in 9001. Simply have them show what is actually done by all involved to make their process a success,

Back to John's original post about everything in the Standard can relate to the topics you asked about I would like to comment that it would be to your great benefit to become well grounded in the Standard.

For example IT does fit in 7.1.3, Infrastructure, but it also plays a critical role in documented information control (7.5).

If you own your own delivery vehicles, part of logistics would also fit into 7.1.3 Infrastructure.

I should mention that you are not required to have any written procedures. You can if you want though under 7.5.1 b "The organization's quality management system shall include . . . documented information determined by the organization as being necessary for the effectiveness of the quality management system.

Have you determined what your core business processes are yet? Knowing what they are could help us help you better.

Looking at IT and Logistics as processes, there would be a lot of clauses in the standard that are actually relevant. Using clause 4.4 as reference, we expect the following on each and every process:
  • outputs of the process (4.4.1a) (IT - well maintained IT infrastructure; Logistics - on-time delivery of products);
  • criteria, methods and monitoring/measurement (4.4.1c, if there are documentation then 7.5 is also applicable, if there are set measurable performance targets then 6.2 is also applicable);
  • necessary resources (4.4.1d, so clauses under 7.1 are also applicable e.g. servers, including stored products, should be in a controlled environment);
  • actions to address risks and opportunities (4.4.1f, thus 6.1 and 8.1 first paragraph are also applicable); etc.
There are also clauses that are applicable when:
  • IT or Logistics is using external providers (8.4, 9.1.3f);
  • the expected outputs are not achieved i.e. nonconforming outputs (8.7) (e.g. IT - damaged computer software due to virus; Logistics - late deliveries).

Greetings to all the professionals,

Please my company is in the process of going for ISO 9001:2015, as the person in charge of IT, am still thinking what could be the requirement regarding IT. i have gone through HSE Process, its quite clear, but am yet to fully cover all the Process requirement for Information Technology. Tho the company core business is not provision of IT services, but as a requirement for ISO 9001, document needs to capture IT department for the certification.

Your kind input/ response is highly appreciated.

Marshal,

As a starting point IT functions cover clauses 6.1.1, 6.1.2, 7.1.1 and 7.1.3.

My organization is a manufacturer certified to ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949:2016 and we have IT services mentioned only in our disaster plan. Such as what could go wrong, how will it affect running of the business and what do we do in specific circumstances.

Marshal,

You could volunteer to own the following three processes:

A. Making valid information available to authorized users
B. Filing and archiving (includes back-ups)
C. Protecting and recovering the IT system

You may also be a member of any other process team where IT is an essential service.

Please let us know what you end up doing.

John
